Ghana and Kenya will wrap up their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a Group F meeting at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, 23 March 2019, kick-off at 18h00.
Both teams have already secured qualification for the 2019 finals in Egypt, making this game no more than a ‘dead rubber’.
Nonetheless, both Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah and Harambee Stars mentor Sebastien Migne will use the game as an opportunity to begin preparations for the AFCON.
Ghana were last in action in November last year, securing a 2-0 away win over Ethiopia thanks to a brace from Jordan Ayew.
Appiah says this match will play a major role in his decision-making process for the final squad. The list for the match against the East Africans includes star players such as the Ayew brothers, Thomas Partey, Christian Atsu and Kwadwo Asamoah.
Kenya have not played since defeating Ethiopia 3-0 in October last year. Coach Migne will be without key forward Michael Olunga due to injury, but Masoud Juma is being backed to lead the attack.
Ghana and Kenya have met in eight previous matches. The Black Stars have claimed four wins compared to two for the Harambee Stars, while two games have been drawn.
The teams’ most recent meeting was a Group F qualifying clash in Nairobi in September 2018, which was won 1-0 by Kenya thanks to an own goal from Nicholas Opoku.
