Spurs looking to secure top four spot

2018/19 Premier League

Round 37 preview

3-6 May 2019

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to secure a top-four finish in the 2018/19 Premier League season when the penultimate round of matches is played this coming weekend.

Spurs suffered their 12th league loss of the season (and a first at their new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) when they were beaten 1-0 by London rivals West Ham United this past Saturday.

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, a heavy defeat for Arsenal at Leicester City as well as a draw between Manchester United and Chelsea means Mauricio Pochettino’s team remain perfectly placed to secure UEFA Champions League football for next season.

A win in their match away to Bournemouth (who have little other than pride left to play for this season) would guarantee a top-four finish and ensure that Spurs’ beautiful new home ground once again hosts games in the premier continental competition in 2019/20.

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.

However, a complication for the Lilywhites is that this clash arrives in the midst of their two-legged Champions League semifinal tie against Dutch side AFC Ajax, and Pochettino may well be tempted to rest his top players ahead of the return game in Amsterdam next Wednesday.
