Spurs to seal top-four berth

2018/19 Premier League

Round 38 preview

Sunday 12 May 2019

Tottenham Hotspur need only avoid a final-day calamity to ensure a top-four finish in the 2018/19 Premier League, with the season wrapping up with Round 38 on Sunday 12 May 2019.

Spurs come into the match placed fourth on the log despite imploding in their 1-0 loss away to Bournemouth this past weekend, a match in which both Son Heung-Min and Juan Foyth were sent off (and are therefore suspended).

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen

Mauricio Pochettino’s team enjoy a three-point advantage over fifth-placed Arsenal and a significantly better goal difference, meaning only a heavy defeat in their home match against Everton combined with a big win for the Gunners away to Burnley would be enough to deny the Lilywhites UEFA Champions League football next season.

In fact, Spurs could yet end in third place, as they are only a point behind Chelsea, who face a potentially tricky match away to Leicester City. If the Blues drop points at the King Power Stadium, Tottenham will leapfrog them with a win over the Toffees.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris

Everton, meanwhile, are in good form after winning five of their last seven league matches, the latest being a 2-0 home triumph over Burnley last Friday. The Merseyside team will look to defend their eighth-place finish from the likes of Leicester and Watford.
