Torino derby the key game in Italy

2018/19 Serie A

Round 35 preview

3-6 May 2019

The Turin derby between Juventus and Torino headlines Round 35 of the 2018/19 Serie A season, while Empoli will continue their battle to avoid relegation.

Juve’s season is winding down after clinching the title earlier in April, but Massimiliano Allegri and his charges will be fired up for the derby at Allianz Stadium on Friday 3 May.

Torino coach Walter Mazzarri.

And the match has special significance for Walter Mazzarri’s Torino, who have a chance at finishing in the top four and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season. However, Il Toro have a poor record against their illustrious neighbours, winning just once in the last 27 meetings of the teams.

Roma, Milan, Atalanta, Lazio and the aforementioned Torino are all scrapping over one berth in the top four. The Giallorossi are away to Genoa, the Rossoneri host Bologna in the final game of the round on Monday, while Atalanta and Lazio have a crunch meeting at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon – a dress rehearsal for their meeting in the Coppa Italia final on May 15.

Empoli are looking to avoid relegation from the Italian top flight.

The relegation battle is all about Empoli trying to save themselves from the drop which awaits Frosinone and Chievo at the end of the season. Aurelio Andreazzoli’s side still have hope of avoiding a move to Serie B, but they must end a four-match winless run when they host Fiorentina at Stadio Carlo Castellani.
