Having won each of the last two US Open tournaments, Belarus star Aryna Sabalenka will have Linda Noskova in her way when the two battle in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
The world number one advanced to the quarter-finals owing to a 6-4, 6-3 win over Taylor Townsend on Sunday as she fought her way through early adversity.
Townsend provided a stern test for Sabalenka as the first set produced five breaks owing to the American’s rapid serves. However, Sabalenka soldiered on by closing a 3-1 deficit in the last five games.
Sabalenka’s upcoming opponent, Noskova booked her ticket into the quarters via a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win over Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the Round of 16 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking after her latest win, Sabalenka expressed that she needed to be patient in the game, particularly after she needed to dig deep in the second set.
"I was just trying to stay focused on myself and play not only point by point but ball by ball," Sabalenka said.
"I'm happy that I was able to turn around that second set."
