2023/24 English Premier League
Matchday 35
Manchester United v Burnley
Old Trafford
Manchester, England
Saturday, 27 April 2024
Kick-off is at 16h00

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will just be looking to get the job done when Premier League strugglers Burnley visit Old Trafford on Saturday, April 27.

The Red Devils have been poor this season and their problems were on display for all to see as they surrendered a three-goal lead against Coventry to draw 3-3 in the FA Cup semi-finals on April 21 before winning 4-2 on penalties.

Ten Hag's side beat basement boys Sheffield United 4-2 at the Theatre of Dreams on April 24, although they had to come from behind on two occasions to arrest a four-match winless run in the league.

United's UEFA Champions League hopes remain slim as they trail Tottenham (5th) by seven points in sixth place and are a further six adrift of Aston Villa, who currently occupy the coveted fourth spot.

The Clarets (19th) gave themselves hope of beating the drop after they ran out convincing 4-1 victors against the Blades at Bramall Lane on April 20.

Vincent Kompany's side have only lost one of their last five games to close within two points of Luton, who are only one behind Nottingham Forest (17th) in the battle for survival.

In team news, the hosts remain without of whole host of players as Tyrell Malacia (knee), Anthony Martial (groin), Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof (both thigh), Lisandro Martinez (calf), Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane are all ruled out, while Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford and Willy Kambwala face late fitness tests. Aaron Ramsey, Luca Koleosho (both knee), Jordan Beyer, Nathan Redmond (both thigh) and Ameen Al-Dakhil continue to be unavailable for the visitors.

Ten Hag is pleased with the creative aspect of his team as they have scored in every game this year, but he admits they are still conceding goals far too easily.

"I think we played quite well, also creating many more chances," the Dutchman told Sky Sports. "Many positives but also some negatives. Conceding two goals from give-aways which is unacceptable. We have to get it out of our game.

"We want to play dynamic, attacking football. That is what we see. Especially after the winter we are very creative, we are creating a lot chances and we also score a lot of goals, which is good."

Kompany has stressed the importance of keeping the momentum going right up until the end of the season as the Clarets attempt to pull of a great escape.

"We know the importance of games like today and there's a lot riding on them but I thought we handled it really well and I'm pleased for all the lads," the Belgian said.

"To be honest, I haven't really looked at the table or other results yet. It's all about our own performance and getting our win today. Hopefully we can continue the momentum into these last four games and continue to believe - like we have done all season."
