With the UEFA Champions League anthem ringing louder in the ears of AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri, the Italian giants will now turn their attention to Sassuolo as their next task in Serie A.
As it stands, third placed AC Milan need six points from their final four games to secure Champions League football as they maintained a five-point lead over fourth placed Juventus following their 0-0 draw last time out.
Milan have now recorded 67 points from 34 matches, as they noted two wins, two losses and one draw in their last five ties.
Sassuolo on the other hand, are lingering in 10th place with 46 points from 34 games played in Serie A.
Among their two victories, two draws and one defeat in their last five, Sassuolo recorded a 0-0 stalemate with Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in their most recent league game this past Sunday.
Reflecting on Milan’s draw with Juventus, an upbeat Massimiliano Allegri urged his side to close in on Champions League qualification during the last few games left of the season.
“Before yesterday, mathematically we needed 7 points; now it’s 6,” Allegri said after the match.
“It wasn’t easy because Juventus are a strong team. The team put in a good performance in terms of attitude.
“Now we’re close; we just need to get there.”
