Pramac Ducati rider Johann Zarco will look to maintain the consistency which has made him a title contender in the 2021 MotoGP World Championship, with the season set to resume after a summer break with Round 10, the Styrian Grand Prix, at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on the afternoon of Sunday 8 August 2021.

Zarco, despite not recording a win so far this season, is second on the Riders’ Championship standings, 34 points adrift of leader Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha). The 31-year-old Frenchman has four podium finishes (all second place) this season to go along with four top-eight finishes and one retirement.

The Pramac Ducati pilot will be hoping his bike’s reputation for immense straight-line speeds comes to the fore on the super-fast Red Bull Ring and gives him a chance at his first win of the season, though fellow Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia and Jack Miller will also be major threats, as will his resourceful and in-form compatriot Quartararo.

Zarco says he is delighted to be second on the Championship standings, but will continue to push for more: “It’s better than the expectations, better than what I could announce at the beginning of the season,” he explained. “But once you are there, you need to take this opportunity and it’s my final target to fight for the title and try to be world champion in MotoGP.

“So, if everything has to come now I have to be clever and go to take it. So, it’s better than what I was saying but I cannot rest myself just because it’s better. I need to just use this moment and take it, so I’m pretty happy.

“And If I just think about the title, I could be disappointed to lose points to Fabio [at Assen] but if I also think about the championship, I’m happy I gained on the riders that are just behind me. So, it was a good operation once again.”
