Yordenis Ugas will step up for a blockbuster clash against all-time great Manny Pacquiao in defence of his WBA (Super) Welterweight Championship at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States on the morning of Sunday 22 August 2021.

Ugas (24-6, 12 KO) is a 35-year-old Cuban who won the Olympic Bronze Medal at Beijing 2008 and was crowned the Amateur Lightweight World Champion in 2005. He claimed the WBA (Regular) Welterweight Championship with a split decision win over Abel Ramos in September last year and was promoted to Super champion when belt-holder Pacquiao was stripped of the title in January of this year due to inactivity.

Ugas was originally meant to fight on the undercard of this event in Vegas, facing Fabian Maidana in the co-main event before ‘PacMan’ took on IBF and WBC Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. However, the latter was forced to withdraw due to an eye injury.

"The ones who made fun of me when Pacquiao came back and got into a fight with Spence. I also want to gift you a good fight,” said Ugas. “I am a humble and hard-working fighter, I came and came only five years ago I was 15-3.Thanks to all who support me and have trusted me. Thankful.”

Both Ugas and Pacquiao will be chasing a fourth successive victory. The Cuban was last in action against Ramos in September 2020, while Pacquiao’s last fight was in July 2019, when he defeated Keith Thurman via split decision to claim the title that his opponent now holds.
