Hideki Matsuyama will be keen to emulate South Africa's Ernie Els by becoming the second golfer to win back-to-back
St. Jude Championships.
What to know about Matsuyama
The Japanese star turned professional in 2013, having won the 2011 Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters on the Japan Golf Tour while still an amateur.
Matsuyama has won 22 professional tournaments to date, including 11 PGA Tour events and the 2021 Masters Tournament, which remains his only golf major win.

The talented golfer was in action at the recent PGA Tour event, which is the 2025 Wyndham Championship, where he finished 19th.
Matsuyama is currently placed 12th on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and his best OWGR is second place.
Why Matsuyama is among the favourites
The former world number one amateur golfer won the 2024 St. Jude Championship by two strokes with a score of 263 (−17) ahead of Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele.
The current season has seen Matsuyama win The Sentry, three strokes ahead of Collin Morikawa and he has set his sights on his second victory of the campaign in Memphis.

“I felt today's victory slipping away at that point because 17 and 18 are difficult holes enough, let alone to birdie them,” Matsuyama said after winning the 2024 St. Jude Championship.
“But I was fortunate enough to birdie 17. Immediately, I thought, 'Oh, man, this is going to be a tough tee shot at 18. I've got to keep it in the fairway.' I'm grateful I was able to do it.”
