Paul Casey will be keen to make history when he competes in this year's Valspar Championship at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club.

The Englishman, who is ranked 20th in the Official World Golf Ranking, has won the last two tournaments as he emulated K. J. Choi (2002, 2006) and Retief Goosen (2003, 2009).

Casey, Choi and Goosen are the only three players that have won this tournament more than once since its inception in 2000.

The Cheltenham-born golfer is now hoping to become the first player to win the Valspar Championship three times.

Casey, who achieved his highest position, third, in the Official World Golf Ranking in 2009, won the Valspar Championship in 2018, his first PGA Tour win in nine years.

The Arizona-based player shot a final round 65 to climb back from five shots off the pace and win the tournament.

Casey successfully defended his Valspar Championship title in 2019 with a one-stroke victory over Jason Kokrak and Louis Oosthuizen, to claim his third PGA Tour title.

The 2006 European Tour Player of the Year was pleased to have birdied his first two holes and shot 69 (T26) at the recent 2021 RBC Heritage even though he did not make the cut.

“I made a really nice eight-footer on the first, made another one on the second. I putted well. I felt comfortable right from the get-go with it," Casey said.

"I think there’s a Nicklaus quote where he said if he could have done one thing different, he would have gone left-hand low. I’d dabbled with it a little bit.

“I think I tried it once at a tournament in Dubai or something like that. It didn’t go very well. But I’ve practiced a lot with it, and it solves a lot of my flaws that I normally have when I’m putting regular-style.”
