The 2019 FIBA World Cup is set to take place in China between 31 August and 15 September.

The global tournament will also act as a qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
 
The top two teams from each of the Americas and Europe, and the top team from each of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and hosts, China will qualify for the Olympics.

Czech Republic and Montenegro will make their first appearance as independent nations after previously being part of Czechoslovakia and Serbia and Montenegro.
 
Poland makes its return to the FIBA World Cup for the first time since 1967.

Meanwhile, USA are the defending champions having defeated Serbia in the 2014 FIBA World Cup final in Spain. 
 
USA are the most successful team in the history of the tournament having won five titles. 
 
Yugoslavia also won five World Cup titles, but the country has since broken apart, the republics of Montenegro and Serbia were formed.
 
While Brazil and Argentina have also lifted the title twice and once respectively.
 
Spain have also won the global tournament once and it was in 2006.
