Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool in their most recent league outing. Dean Smith's men started the season like a house on fire, but have lacked consistency throughout the campaign and have only won once in their last six matches.
City suffered a shock 2-1 loss at home to Leeds United last time out. The Cityzens still hold an 11-point lead but will be eager for a return to winning ways. Pep Guardiola rested several players for the clash in anticipation of crucial cup and European fixtures and has defended his decision to do so.
“We did not control it [the game]. We did not create enough for the forwards. It is part of the game," said Guardiola.

"I select every team to win a specific game. If not, it would not be possible to arrive in the position that we are in the Premier League and the other competitions.
"But I don't know. If you can tell me that if the others played, and assure me 100 per cent that we'd have won, then you would be a perfect manager.

"I don't know if I'd made another selection what would have happened," the City boss added.

Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan found the back of the net for City in a 2-0 win over Villa in the reverse fixture at Etihad Stadium earlier this season.
