City look to complete league ‘double’ over Palace

2019/20 Premier League

Round 23

18-19 January

Manchester City will look to complete a season ‘double’ over Crystal Palace when the teams meet at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 18 January 2020, kick-off at 15:00. The match is one of 10 spread across the weekend of 18-19 January for the 23rd round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew

City continued their fine recent form (and moved back into second place on the log) by thrashing Aston Villa 6-1 away from home, featuring a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero. The Argentine became the top-scoring non-English player in the Premier League history (177 goals) and also set a new record for hat-tricks (12).

“This kind of players there are many in the incredible history of English football, but he is one of them. He helps to make the Premier League better,” said manager Pep Guardiola of Aguero’s achievement.

Palace defender their place in the top half of the table by holding Arsenal 1-1 at home this past weekend, with Jordan Ayew scoring to ensure a share of the spoils for the Eagles.

“Considering the fact that Arsenal started the game so well…we put that right in the 15 minutes before half-time, we got a lot closer to them and made life a lot more difficult got them and that continued into the second half,” said manager Roy Hodgson. “As a result I think that over the total entity of the game, we can be very pleased with a point. A point we thoroughly deserved.”

Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez

In head-to-head stats, Manchester City and Palace have met in 62 previous matches. The Citizens have claimed 33 wins compared to 16 for the Eagles, while 13 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at Selhurst Park in October 2019, City claimed a 2-0 away win thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and David Silva.
