The Blades fell to a ninth defeat in 10 matches, going down 1-0 away to West Brom on Saturday to remain rooted to the bottom of the league standings having conjured just a single point.

Sheffield manager Chris Wilder was at a loss for words in the aftermath of their latest loss with his team having missed a catalogue of chances in an entertaining tussle at the Hawthorns.

"I was scratching my head," Wilder said when asked how his side failed to score. "I thought we started the game well but then it was a poor goal from our point of view. We had a good reaction and in the second half we have to go for it.

"They got chances on the counter-attack but we had enough to win two games there. If we don't show that quality or composure in the final third, then we won't get something out of a game where we should get something from it."

Leicester missed out on a chance to move level on points with Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at the summit of the league standings as they lost for the second weekend in succession, going down 2-1 at home to Fulham.

'We're disappointed, mistakes were made in the first half and it was an uphill climb. We had a lot more of the ball but lacked creativity," Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers said in the aftermath.

"I thought Fulham deserved to win it, they had more energy in the first half and pounced on our mistakes and in the second half they dropped deep. It was more to do with ourselves, we knew they would be compact and tight but in the first half the speed and creativity in our game was not there.

"You can't get away from the fact the players up until this point have done fantastically, considering the quality of players we've had out. In the last few games we've made mistakes and got punished. It's a young team and sometimes they play young," he concluded.
