Chelsea, Man United set for Monday thriller

2019/20 Premier League

Round 26, part II

14-17 February 2020

Chelsea and Manchester United will be geared up for Monday-night thriller when they meet at Stamford Bridge in London on 17 February 2020, kick-off at 20:00. The match is one of six spread from 14 to 17 February to complete the 26th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard

Chelsea come into the clash on the back of a 2-2 draw away to Leicester City on February 1. The Blues remain in charge of the race to claim fourth on the log, but cannot afford to take their eye off the prize in the coming weeks.

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic believes Chelsea are on the right path with Frank Lampard as their manager. “He has kept the character he had as a player in his personality as a coach, which has inspired all of us. He commits himself with everything he’s got,” said the player, before adding: “Frank has a bright future ahead of him, and if he gets enough time he can take Chelsea to many more successes.”

United, meanwhile, played to a soporific 0-0 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last outing, missing out on a chance to make up ground in the race for European places. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes their break and training camp in Spain could be key to reviving the team’s form.

“It’s important that English football got this break. Whenever it’s going to be I think it will benefit the players and benefit the teams. December and January were really hectic with loads of games, nine in each of those months, so our players were stretched and yeah, it’s a good time for us now,” explained the Norwegian tactician.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire

In head-to-head stats, Chelsea and Man United have met in 185 previous matches. The Red Devils have claimed 80 wins compared to 54 for the Blues, while 51 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at Old Trafford in August 2019, United claimed a 4-0 home win thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford (two), Anthony Martial and Daniel James.
