The Pinnacle of Premier League Clubs

English football has a long history with many teams that have been successful throughout the years. Certain clubs have turned their respective times atop the league into winning era’s, earning trophy after trophy, irrespective of players and managers. Today, we’re looking at the 5 most successful clubs in Premier League history.

Aston Villa – 20 Trophies
Villa may have fallen by the wayside in the last decade or so, but they were one of the first teams to go on a winning streak of league and cup titles. They have seven first division league titles and FA Cups, as well as a European Cup title as well. Not counting their second and third division trophies, Aston Villa has solidified itself in the top 5.

Chelsea – 24 Trophies
In stark contrast to Aston Villa, Chelsea have only recently become a title-winning team and are well on their way to matching their rivals. Chelsea have earned six league titles to their name and lifted the Champions League on one occasion. This is all added to the fact that they are ever-present in European competitions, having won two Europa League trophies and two Cup Winner’s Cup titles as well, taking their trophy tally to 24.

Arsenal – 30 Trophies
The Gunners have maintained their position among the very best in the English Premier League ever since they were first promoted to top-flight football. Although the Gunners have been far from winning the league for a few years now, they often nab the odd FA Cup every now and then. The team have earned 13 league titles through their history along with 2 European Cups, bringing their total trophy count to 30.

Manchester United – 42 Trophies
It’s not even all that long ago when Manchester United was fighting for the league title every season, but since the end of Fergie’s era, they have floundered in top-flight football. It hasn’t stopped them from picking up other trophies however, most recently the FA Cup and the Europa League. Their total tally of 20 league titles is the highest in England and they are joint first in terms of total trophies won at 42.

Liverpool – 42 Trophies
Liverpool have long been second to United, but after their incredible Champions League win putting an end to their title drought, they’ve managed to level the field. They have had significant success in Europe, along with 18 league titles that puts them at 42 overall. If this season ends the way we all expect, then Liverpool will surpass their fiercest rivals and take the true top spot with 43 trophies
