2021-22 NBA Regular Season

Tip-off at 01:00

The New Orleans Pelicans and the Dallas Mavericks will have Southern pride on the line when they meet in an NBA Regular Season game at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana on the morning of Friday 18 February 2022. Tip-off is at 01:00.

The Pelicans are placed in lower mid-table in the Western Conference, though they have enjoyed an uptick in form in recent times. Ironically, this has occurred despite losing some important figures in winter trades, including Josh Hart and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

New Orleans have brought in CJ McCollum from the Portland Trail Blazers. "I'm excited," he said about the opportunity to play for the pelicans. "I'm thankful to have been in the league this long and have played with one organization this long. Looking forward to a new chapter. Looking forward to a new challenge and looking forward to playing with these young guys."

The Mavericks have put themselves just outside the leading group of teams in the West, having gradually improved through the course of the season. Dallas did, however, shock star man Luka Doncic by trading away his close friend Kristaps Porzingis.

"Obviously, we're going to miss KP," Doncic said. "We were building something great here. It didn't obviously work out. I wish him the best, and we've got two new guys who are welcome. [Davis] Bertans is a great shooter. [Spencer] Dinwiddie can put the ball on the floor and he can score. The NBA is a business.”

He added, "I think I have great teammates. A lot of people can do a lot of stuff, and I'm really good now. I think we're playing great basketball."

In head-to-head stats, the Pelicans and the Mavericks have met in 73 Regular Season games since 2002-03, with Dallas claiming 49 wins compared to 24 for New Orleans. The teams’ last Regular Season meeting was in December 2021, with the Pelicans winning 107-91 away thanks to 24 points for Brandon Ingram.
