2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 24

Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
London, England
Wednesday, 9 February 2022
Kick-off is at 19h45

Antonio Conte will be looking to bounce back from his first defeat as Tottenham head coach when Southampton visit the capital on Wednesday, February 9.

Conte went unbeaten in his opening nine matches at the helm to set a new club record before that run was ended by his former employers Chelsea, who won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on January 23.

Spurs come into this Premier League clash seventh in the table on 36 points, two shy of the Champions League places with games in hand on the top-four.

The Italian couldn't fault his players' efforts at the home of their London rivals despite a feeling of disappointment at seeing the record halted.

"For sure, I'm very disappointed for a first defeat in the Premier League," Conte told Spurs TV after the loss to the Blues.

"On one side, we have to be disappointed for the defeat but on the other side, we have to know that the players have given everything."

The Saints will be in buoyant mood after holding league leaders Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at St Mary's last time out.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's men head to the capital in search of their first win in three outings, although the 3-1 reverse at Wolves on January 15 was their first defeat in six games.

Hasenhuttl was thrilled to deny City all three points on the day and he praised Kyle Walker-Peters for scoring a wonderful goal.

"Very, very, very pleased – an unbelievable feeling to be unbeaten against the champions, and the future champions," the German tactician said in his post-match interview.

"They are the best team in the league, I must say, but we did a good job today, fighting for everything and we scored a beautiful goal.

"An unbelievable goal – exactly what we wanted to play. A pullback pass from Reddy (Nathan Redmond) from the pullback area and an unbelievable finish from Kyle. It was a fantastic goal."
