IBF World Super Middleweight champion Jose Uzcategui gears up for first defence

IBF World Super Middleweight Title

Jose Uzcategui v Caleb Plant

Sunday, 13 January 2019

Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles, USA

Jose Uzcategui will have his first defence of the IBF World Super Middleweight Title when he faces challenger Caleb Plant at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, 13 January 2019.

The 28-year-old Venezuelan secured the title belt by defeating Andre Dirrell in their rematch in March, having lost the first fight by disqualification in 2017.

The Venezuelan got the better of Andre Dirrel to claim his title belt.

Uzcategui’s last match was not a title defence of the Super Middleweight crown, but he nonetheless got the better of Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna in September 2018 to demonstrate his form and fitness.

Meanwhile, Plant is a relative newcomer to professional boxing (he started his career in 2014) but he is already regarded as a top contender and boasts an undefeated record of 17-0-0.

The 26-year-old moved into position to challenge for the title with an impressive unanimous decision victory over tough veteran Rogelio Medina in February 2018.

The Nashville-born fighter was the 2011 Golden Gloves winner in the Light Heavyweight division and was an alternate for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Caleb Plant, who was last in action in February 2018, boasts an unbeaten record.
