Genoa come into the clash on the back of a 0-0 draw away to Hellas Verona on Monday night, a result which saw them recover from a 6-0 thrashing they suffered three weeks earlier which was followed by an outbreak of Covid-19 in their squad.

“I am sorry we were the only ones in the spotlight. We are trying to live this moment with great sacrifice. When there is inactivity, games tend to be more difficult. We just have to cancel the second half with Napoli,” saod coach Rolando Maran. “Today we proved how much we care. The second half of Napoli weighed heavily on us. Today there was supremacy of Verona, but we tried to win the game.”

Inter have dropped points in their last two Serie A outings, drawing 1-1 with Lazio prior to the international break before a painful 2-1 loss at the hands of cross-city rivals AC Milan last weekend.

“Then it becomes difficult. We could have at least reached a draw but congratulations to AC Milan, they held their ground, they were resilient and kept the advantage of one goal until the end. However, I’m not angry at the team, they had a great game despite the initial difficulties,” said manager Antonio Conte.

In head-to-head stats, Genoa and Internazionale have met in 33 matches across all competitions. The Nerazzurri have claimed 20 wins compared to eight for Il Grifone, while five games have been drawn.

The teams’ two Serie A matches last season saw Inter complete a comprehensive league ‘double’ as they won 4-0 at home in December 2019 and 3-0 away in July 2020, with Romelu Lukaku scoring four goals across the two clashes.
