Charlotte Hornets v Oklahoma City Thunder

2021-22 NBA Regular Season

Saturday 22 January 2022

Tip-off at 00:00.

The Charlotte Hornets will look to rumble the Oklahoma City Thunder when the teams meet for an NBA Regular Season game at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina on the morning of Saturday 22 January 2022. Tip-off is at 00:00.

The Hornets find themselves in upper mid-table in the Eastern Conference standings, pushing hard to ensure they seal a Playoff berth. However, this past weekend saw them suffer a surprise 116-109 home loss at the hands of Orlando Magic (who snapped a 10-game losing streak).

"Yeah, disappointing loss," Hornets coach James Borrego said. "They played harder. They were the more aggressive team. They acted like we did for the last couple games, so credit to them. We have a ways to go."

The Thunder, meanwhile, are well off the pace in the Western Conference, with a berth in the Playoffs looking highly unlikely, as they scrap near the bottom of the log with the likes of the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. This past weekend, however, saw Oklahoma claim a major scalp, as they defeated the Brooklyn Nets 130-109 away from home – their first victory since New Year’s eve.

"I think we just had it clicking," Darius Bazley said. "Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 33 points] got off to a crazy start, Lu had it going. We were just firing on all cylinders."

Mike Muscala said the Thunder have struggled getting off to good starts but knew they could jump on a short-handed Nets: "We definitely talked about that, just trying to really be the aggressor tonight and come out and deliver that punch.”

In head-to-head stats, the Hornets and the Thunder have met in 60 Regular Season games since 1988-89, with Oklahoma claiming 41 wins compared to 19 for Charlotte. The teams’ last Regular Season meeting was in April 2021, with the Hornets winning 113-102 away from home thanks to 21 points from Jalen McDaniels.
