Hideki Matsuyama will be hoping to become the sixth golfer to win the
Sony Open in Hawaii twice when he tees off at the Waialae Country Club.

The Japanese superstar has won 17 worldwide wins and recorded eight career top-10 finishes in major championships making him one of Asia's greatest golfers of all time.
Matsuyama's eight wins on the PGA Tour make him the most successful Japanese member of the PGA Tour in history and he has won one golf major, the 2021 Masters.

The former Tohoku Fukushi University student was in action at the recent 2024 Sentry Tournament of Champions and he missed the cut.
Matsuyama is currently placed 50th on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), and his best overall ranking is second place.
Why Matsuyama is one of the favourites
Matsuyama won the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2022 as he tied K. J. Choi for most PGA Tour victories (eight) by an Asian-born player.
The talented golfer knows what it takes to win at the Waialae Country Club and he will be confident of winning the event for the second time.
What did he say
“I feel great. To win here where the first Japanese player in Isao Aoki won on the PGA Tour is extra special,” Matsuyama said after emulating Choi at the 2022 Sony Open in Hawaii.
“Especially on a course that I haven’t really played that well. It’s a tough golf course for me. I’m extra excited, extra happy because of that.”
