Senegal will go head-to-head with Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on 18 January.

Build-up to the final

A Sadio Mane's 78th-minute goal earned Senegal a 1-0 victory over Egypt in the semi-finals on 14 January, which ensured that they remain undefeated in the 2025 AFCON.

Therefore, the Lions of Teranga are undefeated in their last seven matches across all competitions, having recorded their fourth successive win when they overcame the Pharaohs.

Senegal's seven-match unbeaten run consists of six victories and one draw, which came against DR Congo in the AFCON Group D match on 27 December.

Latest news

Senegal will be without the services of their captain, Kalidou Koulibaly, and midfielder Habib Diarra, who are both suspended after being booked during the game against Egypt.

Koulibaly was also substituted due to an injury during the semi-final game and apart from that, coach Pape Thiaw's side have not reported any injuries in their camp.

Why Senegal could win the AFCON title

The Lions of Teranga have demonstrated why they were considered among the title contenders, thanks to their recent form, immense squad depth, tactical stability, and the effective blending of experienced and top-class players with emerging talents.

Furthermore, Senegal were crowned AFCON champions in 2021 after finishing second in the 2019 edition, and their trophy-winning experience could be key to them overcoming Morocco in front of their own fans.

Quotes

"From the start, we did it together," Mane said after being named Man of the Match following Senegal's win over Egypt.

"We avoided making individual errors or committing unnecessary fouls. I think we managed the game well from start to finish and, overall, we deserved to win.

"We have to be honest about the final, and I think all the teams are amazing. We'll see, and we'll try to be ready for the final and, above all, to give our best."
