Manchester United v Liverpool FC

Kick-off is at  1pm

Manchester United will be looking to start a new era with a win when they take on Liverpool FC at the Rajamangala National Stadium on July 12.

This will be the Red Devils' maiden match in the ‪2022-23 season and the club has a new manager in Erik ten Hag who will be taking charge of his first game.

The Dutch tactician will be looking to start his tenure with a win over United's arch-rivals, Liverpool having enjoyed a successful spell as Ajax Amsterdam manager.

Ten Hag led his Ajax team to the semi-finals of the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1997.

The former Utrecht manager won his first managerial trophy with Ajax with the 2018/19 KNVB Cup, followed by the Eredivisie title which brought a double for the club.

In 2021, Ten Hag led Ajax to their record-extending 20th KNVB Cup, and in January 2022 he became the fastest manager in league history to reach 100 wins with Ajax, achieving the feat in 128 matches.

The 52-year-old faced Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool twice during the ‪2020-21 season and his Ajax team were beaten 1-0 both home and away in the UEFA Champions League Group D matches.

"It would have been a big bonus if we had taken one or more points. I think Liverpool were vulnerable. Unfortunately, we didn't make the most of that," Ten Hag said after losing to Klopp's Liverpool in England.

"We were unlucky. We performed well collectively. We were convincing, but that last one per cent was missing – we didn't score even though we created many chances. That's the story of this game, I think."

This will be the 210th meeting between United and Liverpool since their maiden match on 12 October 1895.

United lead in the head-to-head record between the two teams, with 81 wins to Liverpool's 70; the remaining 58 matches have finished as draws.
