After qualifying for the
Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals for the first time in their history, Algeria will hope to progress even further in the competition as they prepare to face Ghana on Saturday.
Algeria concluded their group stage obligations with a 0-0 draw with Nigeria last Sunday as they subsequently finished second in Group B.
Despite just one win in their last three games at the tournament, Algeria advanced to the WAFCON quarters for the first time in their history. Reflecting on their feat, Chloé Yamina N'Gazi Boumrar expressed that Algeria’s team spirit played a crucial role in moving onto the final eight.

“We’re a real team, we like helping each other, that was our goal and we didn’t concede [against Nigeria], we’re really proud of that.”
Ghana, who finished second in Group C, will go into their next tie on the back of a 4-1 win against Tanzania on Monday night.
Now with the knockouts in full view, the Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren feels that her side deserve to be in the position they’re in after making the quarters for the first time since 2018.
“Ghana missed the knockout stages the last time that they played [in 2018 at home] and we have now made it past the group stages,” Björkegren said.
“The result is very important to us. We shall take it all in now because the players deserve this. They showed that they can stay true to our style and win.”
