Roberto Mancini, the Italy head coach, was happy with his charges' performance after the win over Wales and he is looking forward to facing Austria.

“I was very pleased to see that I changed eight players and yet the team played well, could’ve scored more goals against a side that was very defensive,” Mancini said.

“When they went down to 10 men, they went even more defensive with everyone behind the ball. It’s not easy to find spaces in a situation like that. “We were distracted on two set plays and almost paid a price for those, so we should’ve been more careful.

“A different tournament kicks off now. If the lads continue like this, then I could not ask for more. We hope to play well and then return to Wembley further on in the competition.”

Meanwhile, Austria secured a slender 1-0 win over Ukraine in their last Group C match which took place on June 21.

As a result, the Boys returned to winning ways after the Netherlands ended their two-match unbeaten across all competitions having recorded a draw and a win.

The last meeting between Italy and Austria was on 20 August 2008.

Austria frustrated Italy in an international friendly match that ended in a 2-2 draw at the Stade Municipal du Ray Nice, France.
