International Friendly Match

Morocco v Ghana

Tuesday, 8 June 2021

Morocco will lock horns with fellow African giants Ghana in an international friendly match on June 8.

The Atlas Lions secured a 1-0 win over Burundi in their last game which was the 2022 AfricaCup of Nations qualifier on March 30.

The win extended Morocco's unbeaten run to 15 matches across all competitions having registered four draws and 11 victories.

They are also undefeated in their last 10 home matches across all competitions having recorded seven victories and three draws.

Meanwhile, Ghana claimed a 3-1 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in their last game which was the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on March 28.

The Black Stars are undefeated in their last two matches across all competitions having registered one draw and one victory.

However, Ghana are winless in their last three away matches having recorded two successive defeats and one draw.

Charles Akonnor, the Ghana head coach, has explained why he omitted Italy-based midfielder Alfred Duncan in his 30-man squad to face Morocco.

“Alfred Duncan is not being overlooked. He was not playing a lot back then, but now he is playing a lot now. We know what he can do, and we are monitoring that," Akonnor said.

"He has not been in the country in a while, and we know we can still rely on him. He is not here now, but we know what he can bring, but we also have to give the chance to some local-based players and that is why he was not called.

"We want to play beautiful football, and we will need to give the chance to players who can help us bring that to the table, but it does not mean Alfred Duncan is being overlooked”.

The last meeting between Morocco and Ghana was on 28 January 2008.

Ghana emerged 2-0 winners over Morocco in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations Group A game which was played at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra.
