2022/23 UEFA Nations League

League A - Group 4
Matchday 4

Poland v Belgium

Stadion Narodowy
Warsaw, Poland
Tuesday, 14 June 2022
Kick-off is at 18h45

Poland will be hoping to avoid another drubbing at the hands of Belgium when they meet in the UEFA Nations League at the Stadion Narodowy on Tuesday, June 14.

The Eagles took the lead through Robert Lewandowski in Brussels on matchday 2, but a second-half blitz from the Red Devils saw them run out comprehensive 6-1 victors in the end.

Czeslaw Michniewicz's side looked to spring another surprise when they went two goals up against the Netherlands on Saturday, only for Davy Klaassen (51') and Denzel Dumfries (54') to score in quick succession to deny them all three points.

The Poles are third in the group on four points, having kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Wales on June 1 and Jan Bednarek praised his team-mates for performing at their very best to deny the Dutch a third successive win.

"I think we can be satisfied with the point. We knew they were going to be a tough side," Bednarek said.

"At then end we had a bit of luck, they missed a penalty and had a few chances, but our passion, commitment and fight was of the highest level."

It has been a mixed bag of results for Belgium in the competition after they suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss to Oranje on matchday 1 before bouncing back to thrash Poland on June 8.

Roberto Martinez's team were held to a 1-1 draw by the Dragons on Saturday as Brennan Johnson struck four minutes from time to cancel out Youri Tielemans' 51st-minute opener in Cardiff.

The equaliser was controversial after initial images showed that Johnson was offside, although a VAR review revealed the substitute was just level, leading to criticism from Martinez, who described the system as "comical".

"When I look at the images it doesn't look right, so we need an explanation from the VAR committee and how the system works as those lines were not parallel to the 18-yard box. And it looks like we've had two points taken away," he said.

"I expect an explanation from really high up. It is very important for FIFA and UEFA, with it being around a World Cup. The lines don't work. Is it the pixel of the image? It's comical.

"But the lines, please. We are in a multi-million business and the lines are comical. As a federation, we need an explanation on how that decision was given. Why are we using this sort of system? It's not a system that is reliable."

Head-to-Head record:

Matches - 20
Poland - 7
Belgium - 7
Draws - 6
