Aleix Espargaro will be determined to bounce back to winning ways when he participates in the German Grand Prix on June 19.

The Aprilia rider, who was the FIM CEV International Championship winner of the Spanish 125GP series in 2004, finished seventh in last year's German MotoGP.

Having won the 2022 Argentine MotoGP, Espargaro missed out on a podium spot in the most recent race in the current campaign as he finished fifth at the Catalan MotoGP on June 5.

The Spanish rider was set to finish as runner-up to Fabio Quartararo after pulling clear of Ducati’s Jorge Martin in the closing laps in Catalan, but he missed his pit board and ultimately, finished fifth.

The race was won by Yamaha's Quartararo, while the Ducati duo of Jorge Martin and Johann Zarco finished second and third respectively.

As a result, Quartararo maintained his spot at the top of the 2022 riders' standings and Ducati rider Enea Bastianini is currently placed third on the table.

Espargaro is placed second in the standings and he will move to the top of the table if he wins the German MotoGP and Quartararo fails to record points this weekend.

“I’m very sorry obviously for my team because this is a very big mistake (to do) in MotoGP,” said Espargaro after Catalan MotoGP.

“My pit-board was the first one out of the last corner so I didn’t have a lot of time to read all the information, I just saw that I was pulling away from (Jorge) Martin.

"But I had no time to see the laps remaining so I looked at the tower (timing pylon on infield) and thought I saw L1 but I couldn’t remember that one lap to go is L0," he added.

“This was fully my mistake and I’m very sorry, so hopefully I can do a good race in Germany."

Ducati are placed at the top of the Constructors' championship standings and they are followed by Yamaha and Aprilia respectively.
