Ghana produced a stubborn defensive masterclass to hold fancied England to a 0-0 draw in their 2026 World Cup Group L clash at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday night.
The result keeps the Black Stars second in the group, level on points with England. As former African champions, Ghana now sit in a commanding position to advance to the Round of 32 ahead of their final group fixture against Croatia on June 27.
England dominated possession and territory but failed to make it count. Despite creating several promising openings after the break, the Three Lions were left frustrated and will head into their last match against Panama on June 27 still needing a strong performance to guarantee top spot.
Ghana were happy to soak up pressure, defending deep and organised while looking to spring dangerous counters through their attacking trio of IƱaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew.
Their disciplined shape proved highly effective — England failed to land a single shot on target in the first half, with all six of their efforts flying off target.
The Three Lions stepped up significantly after the interval. Benjamin Asare was called into action, making solid saves to deny Anthony Gordon in the 58th minute and England's star player Harry Kane in the 69th minute.
But England came closest in the dying moments when substitute Bukayo Saka's low drive was well saved by Asare in the 86th minute.
Nico O’Reilly’s header then struck the woodwork with the goalkeeper beaten, only for Harry Kane to fire the rebound wastefully over the bar from point-blank range.
Ghana stood firm until the final whistle, claiming a hard-earned and heroic point.
