In view of the New York Knicks' first NBA finals appearance since 1999, coach Mike Brown and star performer Karl Anthony Towns cited hard work as the key weapon to overturn a star-studded San Antonio Spurs outfit.
With the Knicks having a prolonged lay-off between series assignments in the Eastern Conference, Towns expressed that his side will do all they can to avoid any rust heading into Game one of the NBA finals.
“We understand what happened last time we had a layoff like this,” Towns said.
“So, we’re trying to be better than we were last time by approaching it better and preparing better than we did last time.
“We’re obviously making tweaks to not have the same rust that we had in Game 1 [of the Eastern Conference final]. Wake up, it was a brand-new day, back to work.
“So, we all got back to work, and we are just preparing.”

As for Mike Brown, the former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach believes that their upcoming opponents boast a balanced mix of youth and experience, while he hopes his side can maintain their standards throughout the series.
“It’s going to be tough. They’re well coached. They obviously have a tremendous player in ‘Wemby’ (Victor Wembanyama),” Brown said.
They’re quote-unquote young to a certain degree, but they have some veterans on the team that kind of uplift the young guys and give the young guys a lot of guidance. So they’ve got a nice mix of players on their team.
“They’re a team that comes out really aggressive and hits first. Their crowd is into it, and we just have to go and make sure that we try to match or exceed their physicality to start the ball game while leaning on our standards.”
