Leicester look to give Chelsea the blues

2019/20 Premier League

Round 25

1-2 February 2020

Leicester City will go in search of the major scalp of Chelsea when the teams meet in a key league clash at the King Power Stadium on Saturday 1 February 2020, kick-off at 12:30. The match is one of 10 spread across the weekend of 1-2 February for the 25th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Leicester come into the clash on the back of a 1-0 win away to Brentford in the FA Cup, following on from a 4-1 triumph over West Ham United last midweek to put their recent wobble in form to bed.

“I think every club has priorities, but hopefully what we’ve shown is that we want to do as well as possibly can in every competition we’re in,” said manager Brendan Rodgers. “We’re into the fifth round of the FA Cup, we’re in a really healthy position in the league, but we know we have a lot of work to do. The assessment is at the end of the season. Let’s see where we finish.”

Chelsea also advanced in the FA Cup, claiming a narrow 2-1 away victory over Hull City on Saturday thanks to goals from Michy Batshuayi and Fikayo Tomori, though they have failed to win either of their last two Premier League matches: 0-1 against Newcastle United and 2-2 against Arsenal.

This has led manager Frank Lampard to call on the club to bring in reinforcements – particularly in attack – in what little remains of the transfer window.

“We lost ground last summer so now we need to (sign players), to challenge for top four. For me it’s clear. The recruitment when you’ve missed a window in the short term is very important and we need to get it right,” said the Blues legend.

In head-to-head stats, Leicester and Chelsea have met in 115 previous matches. The Blues have claimed 56 wins compared to 26 for the Foxes, while 33 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at Stamford Bridge in August 2019, they played out a 1-1 draw. Mason Mount netted early for Chelsea, but Leicester replied in the second half through Wilfred Ndidi.
