The Cityzens have crashed out at the quarter-final stage in both of the last two seasons losing to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur respectively while they have repeatedly failed to live up to their billing in the competition under head coach Pep Guardiola.

But having dispatched record 13-time champions Real Madrid in the Round of 16, City will start to feel that this could finally be their year as they aim to become the sixth English club to win Europe's most coveted club trophy.

The Manchester club could be handed a boost with news that Sergio Aguero is making a late bid to prove his fitness ahead of the clash. The forward has missed the last seven weeks of action with a knee injury. In his absence, Gabriel Jesus has impressed and the Brazilian is the club's leading goalscorer in the competition this season with six goals alongside Raheem Sterling.

Lyon booked their last eight ticket with victory over Serie A champions Juventus in the Round of 16. Memphis Depay scored the all important away goal for the French club in Turin and he too is on six goals in the competition this season.

The two teams met in the group stages of the 2018/19 competition with Lyon claiming a 2-1 win in England before a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture.

“We will continue to be outsiders, that suits us very well. Me, I am working well with my board and my players, that is what counts," said Lyon head coach Rudi Garcia ahead of this week's match having described their loss in Turin as the 'happiest defeat of his career'. Lyon advanced to the last eight on the away goals rule.
