Matchday 28

Watford v Arsenal

Vicarage Road
Watford, England
Sunday, 6 March 2022
Kick-off is at 16h00

Arsenal will be targeting a place in the top-four when they take on Watford in a Premier League clash at Vicarage Road on Sunday, March 6.

Mikel Arteta's side bolstered their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League after recording three successive wins in the league.

The 1-0 home victory over Wolves last Thursday came just two weeks after they beat the Black Country club by the same scoreline at Molineux, which was followed by a 2-1 triumph against Brentford.

The Gunners trail fourth-placed Manchester United by just two points in sixth spot with three games in hand.

Arteta is refusing to look further than the next encounter in their quest to finish in the top-four, but admits a three-match winning streak had put them in a good position.

"Putting victories in a row, it gives you a great chance. The table looks much better," he said after the Wolves tie.  "We are still not there, we know the complexities and the difficulties of the team we are fighting with, but we go game by game."

Roy Hodgson's men picked up what could be a massive point in the fight for survival when they held the Red Devils to a goalless draw at Old Trafford.

The 19th-placed Hornets closed to within three points of safety, while the continued poor form of Everton and Leeds has given them further hope of avoiding the drop.

Hodgson praised the efforts of his players to come away from United with a share of the spoils and urged them to carry that fighting spirit into their remaining games.

"We should be fighting for our lives on the pitch. The attitude of the team was outstanding," he said after the stalemate at the Theatre of Dreams.

"It would've been nice to have shown more composure on the break but that's hard to do in our position. Once or twice, we got into great positions and perhaps that first decision let us down a little.

"The players should be proud of their performance. I didn't see players leaping around afterwards celebrating, which shows me they've got high standards. We grafted so well, well enough to deserve a point I thought."
