2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 31

Manchester United v Leicester City

Old Trafford
Manchester, England
Saturday, 2 April 2022
Kick-off is at 16h30

Manchester United will continue their battle for a top-four finish when they host Leicester in a Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday, April 2.

The Red Devils only have the league to focus on for the remainder of the season after being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Atletico Madrid in the last 16.

Their quest to feature in Europe's elite club competition next term had faltered in recent weeks after a 0-0 draw against Watford and a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.

However, Ralf Rangnick's side bounced back with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Tottenham prior to the international break, courtesy of a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo.

United trail fourth-placed Arsenal by four points in sixth spot and Rangnick has stressed the importance of picking up as many points as possible from the remaining nine matches to give themselves a chance of finishing in the top four.

"In the league, the situation is pretty clear. This nine games, we will have to win most of them," the German said. "For sure, we have to win against Arsenal. The only way to finish fourth, in the end, is to win most of them.

"We are fully aware that there are some really difficult ones, in the Premier League there are no easy games, for sure.

"The next three games are at home to Leicester, away to Everton and home to Norwich. We have to get all nine points if possible."

The Foxes climbed back into the top-half of the table following a 2-1 triumph against Brentford last time out, which was their third win in four games.

Brendan Rodgers' charges are unlikely to play in Europe again next season so they will be looking to make the most of their run in the Europa Conference League, where they have reached the quarter-finals after beating Rennes in the previous round.

Rodgers is looking forward to the final two months of the campaign, which includes a European double-header against Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

"It's been tough, but it's a really exciting period ahead for us now," the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV. "We need a little bit of recovery. The guys will have a few days off.

"We'll get to work again with the players that are still here over the course of the week and then we'll get them all back on Tuesday and then we've got Manchester United and a host of other games that will be fantastic games for us. Hopefully we can then finish the season really strong."
