Current Form

The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Central African Republic in June 2022 as they extended their unbeaten run to four matches in the AFCON Qualifiers.

Ghana have a good home record in the AFCON Qualifiers having recorded 13 wins and three draws as the hosts from 16 matches.

While Angola were held to a 0-0 draw by Madagascar away in June 2022 and they are undefeated in their last three games in the AFCON Qualifiers.

However, Palancas Negras are winless in their last four matches on the road in the AFCON Qualifiers having registered two draws and two defeats as the visitors.

What Is At Stake

Ghana are placed at the top of the Group E standings - level on points with second-placed Angola with four matches left.

A victory over Palancas Negras would see the Black Stars open a three-point lead at the top of the standings.

On the other hand, Angola will be hoping to secure a win in order to take control of the group.

Team News

Fatawu Issahaku, Baba Rahman and Baba Idrissu have surprisingly been omitted from the Ghana squad that will face Angola.

While Jermain Nischalke, Jaredi Lopes Texeira, Zini and Vá will all be missing after being excluded from the latest Palancas Negras squad.

Key Players

Ajax Amsterdam's Mohammed Kudus is the player to watch out for in the Ghana squad having dazzled at the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar where he scored two goals.

While Al Wakrah star Gelson is Angola's key player having scored in the Southern African side's first two matches in Group E games which were against Madagascar and Central African Republic.

Quotes

“Well, I have never met him (new Ghana coach Chris Hughton) personally. I have never been with him. Sure, we have a chance to cross each other," Angola coach Pedro Goncalves said on Ghana Sports Page.

"We haven’t talked to each other before but this is a chance to meet each other in the AFCON qualifiers. He is an experienced coach and right now he is in charge of the Ghana national team.

"I hope he is going to do a good job but my work right now is to create trouble for him. Yes, I hope we will have a fair match and then we will see but for now I wish to create trouble for Chris Hughton."

Head-to-Head

Ghana and Angola have met three times in competitive matches - all of them coming in the AFCON finals. The Black Stars have won two games compared to Palancas Negras' one.

Ghana also won 1-0 in their last meeting which was a 2010 AFCON quarter-final match at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.
