2022/23 Spanish La Liga

Matchday 27

Elche CF v FC Barcelona

Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero
Elche, Spain
Saturday, 1 April 2023
Kick-off is at 21h00

Elche CF will face off with FC Barcelona in a Spanish La Liga match at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on April 1.

Current Form

The Green-Stripped Ones succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad away on March 19 and they are winless in their last two league games.

Elche are also winless in their last three matches at home having recorded one draw and two consecutive defeats at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.

Meanwhile, Barcelona secured a 2-1 win over Real Madrid at home on March 19 as they extended their unbeaten run to three matches in La Liga.

Barca have won two of their last three matches on the road, while the other game ended in a defeat to UD Almeria on February 26.

What Is At Stake

Barcelona are still placed at the top of the league standings - 12 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid with 12 matches left.

Barca will be determined to secure a win over Elche which would see Xavi Hernandez's side edge closer to clinching the championship.

On the other hand, Elche are placed 20th on the table and they will be keen to claim a win which would boost their hopes of avoiding relegation from La Liga.

Team News

Elche have their injury concerns as John Donald and Alex Collado will be missing due their respective injuries, but the club has no suspension concerns.

While Barcelona players Ousmane Dembélé, Pedri, Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araújo and Frenkie de Jong are currently injured while Raphinha is suspended.

Key Players

Elche will pin their hopes of defeating Barcelona on Pere Milla who is the Green-Stripped Ones' top scorer with six goals in the league this term.

The club's manager Sebastián Beccacece will have to find a way to stop Barcelona's world-class striker Robert Lewandowski who is still La Liga's top scorer with 15 goals.

Quotes

“As a manager, I am more nervous for El Clasico than I was as a player. I got chills with the crowd today. It’s a day for the team and the fans to enjoy," Xavi said after their win over Madrid.

“We were superior and the players deserved to win here. In the second half, we lost more duels, and it became more difficult, but the result is fair and I’m happy.

"Madrid knew how to play out of our press. The offside goal they scored came from our mistake, but I think that we were superior in general.”

Head-to-Head

Barcelona claimed a 3-0 win over Elche in their last meeting in La Liga with the match taking place at the Spotify Camp Nou on 17 September 2022.

Barca are undefeated against Elche since the latter made their return to La Liga in 2014 having recorded eight wins and one draw nine matches.
