Inter Milan have the upper hand going into the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against arch-rivals AC Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday, May 16.

The Nerazzurri beat their neighbours on the European stage for the first time in their history when first-half goals from Edin Dzeko (8') and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (11') secured a 2-0 win in the first leg in Milan on May 10.

This will be the fifth meeting of the season between the two Italian giants, with Inter having won 3-0 in the Super Cup and 1-0 in Serie A most recently after the Rossoneri emerged 3-2 victors in the reverse fixture.

Simone Inzaghi's side have only been beaten twice in Europe's elite club competition this season, both times at the hands of Bayern Munich, while they are undefeated in their last four games as the home team.

A 3-3 draw with Benfica in the quarter-final, second leg halted a three-match winning streak at home, with Inter having shipped just two goals in their previous four encounters in Milan.

Dzeko continues to produce the goods for the Nerazzurri despite his advancing years and the Bosnian's opener against Milan was his fourth goal in 11 Champions League outings this term. The 37-year-old striker has also played a key role in their push for a top-four finish in Serie A, contributing nine goals and four assists in 31 appearances.

In team news, Milan Skriniar remains doubtful for Inter with a back injury, while Milan are sweating on the fitness of Ismael Bennacer after he was forced off with a knee problem just 17 minutes into the first leg. Rafael Leao (thigh) is considered doubtful once more after missing also the previous game.

Inzaghi felt they could have put the result beyond doubt in the first half, although he isn't one to dwell on the past as he looks to reach the final for the first time since Jose Mourinho led the club to a historic treble in 2009-10.

"In the first half, we should've had a greater advantage. We hit the post, had a penalty ruled out, there was a clearance onto the woodwork," he told SportItalia.

"We could have scored more, but we'll take the 2-0 advantage, knowing that we're still 90 minutes plus stoppage time away from making an incredible dream come true.

"It's a great feeling, we've done some great things in the past 20 months We've lifted trophies, but what's already been done doesn't matter, it's the future that counts."
