Rayo Vallecano will be targeting their joint-best finish to a
La Liga season when they welcome Real Mallorca to Vallecas on Saturday, May 24.
The Little Thunderbolt have performed well above expectations this season, winning 13 games to put themselves in the frame for Europe going into the final round of fixtures.
Inigo Perez's side beat Celta Vigo 2-1 on May 18 to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League after closing within a point of the Sky Blues (7th) in eighth place.
Rayo also finished eighth in 2012-13 with 53 points and victory in Madrid on the final weekend will see them eclipse that tally and secure a return to continental football for the first time since 2000-01 when they participated in the UEFA Cup.
The Pirates had also been challenging for a top-eight finish before a disappointing run of results in recent weeks ended their European dream.
A 2-1 reverse to Getafe on May 18 - their fourth loss in five outings - left Jagoba Arrasate's side four points adrift of Rayo and Osasuna (9th) in 10th position.
Arrasate wants a response from his players as they look to finish in the top half of the table for only the second time in the last decade.
"It's important for us to finish with one last joy, to finish in the top 10," the Spaniard said. "We're going to try and then rest. We have to have a good market and a good pre-season, and start at the top of our game."
Omar Mascarell echoed the thoughts of his head coach, saying: "I think it would be very important for the group, and also for the fans, after a blow like the one we took today.
"I think it's important to reach 50 points, to finish with a win, it's very important for next season. We can't give up, there are 90 minutes to go to get the win."
