Atletico Madrid will look to break Arsenal’s hearts when the teams meet for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal tie, set for the Emirates Stadium in London on the evening of Tuesday 5 May 2026. Kick-off at 19:00.
What happened in the first leg?
The teams met at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on Wednesday 29 April. Arsenal claimed the lead just before the half-time interval via a penalty from Viktor Gyokeres. Atletico hit back via a penalty of their own, scored by Julian Alvarez in the 56th minute. The Gunners had another penalty awarded late in the game for a challenge on Eberechi Eze, but the spot kick was scratched off after a VAR review.
What do Atletico need to triumph?
An away win of any kind will see Atletico triumph on aggregate, while a draw of any score will see the match go to an extra time period of 30 minutes, followed by a penalty shootout if necessary. The Spanish side are looking to reach the Champions League final for the fourth time. Their three previous appearances (1973-74, 2013-14 and 2015-16) have all ended in defeat.
