Matt Fitzpatrick will look to continue his strong showing in 2026 when he competes at the PGA Tour’s Truist Championship, set for the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, from Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 May.
The 31-year-old Englishman has secured three notable victories this year, triumphing at the Valspar Championship and RBC Heritage, as well as the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he won the team event alongside his brother, Alex.
Fitzpatrick’s form makes him one of the favourites to win the Truist Championship, though his best finish at Quail Hollow in a PGA Tour event was a tie for 35th in 2023. Yet he did finish in a tie for eighth in the PGA Championship, held at Quail Hollow, last year.
In comparing conditions at the venue to 2025’s PGA Championship, Fitzpatrick said he was “shocked” at the firmness of the greens.
“Yeah, I feel like it’s obviously different this week compared to the PGA last year,” he admitted. “I think with the weather we had last year for the PGA the greens were a little bit softer, the rough was a little bit higher.
“This week it’s actually the opposite. The greens seem to be very, very firm and the rough’s a little shorter, which is nice. Yeah, I’m really kind of shocked at how firm the greens are right now and that’s definitely going to make it a great test.”
The main threats to Fitzpatrick’s hopes of a first Truist Championship triumph will come from Masters Tournament champion Rory McIlroy (who will be returning to competitive action after a month off, and is a record four-time champion of this event), defending champion Sepp Straka, as well as the likes of Cameron Young and Justin Rose, while world No1 Scottie Scheffler has chosen to skip this event as he targets the upcoming PGA Championship.
