Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales will look to begin a late-season rally in the MotoGP World Championship, starting with Round 12, the Grand Prix of Europe at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia on Sunday 8 November 2020.

Vinales finds himself in third place on the riders’ standings, 19 points adrift of leader Joan Mir (Suzuki) and with fellow Yamaha pilot Favio Quartararo in between.

The 25-year-old Spaniard has had an up-and-down season thus far. The peak arrived at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix when he claimed a superb victory in Misano, and it looked at that point as if he had established himself as the favourite for the title.

However, Vinales has failed to reach the podium ever since, with his best result in the four-race sequence a fourth-place finish at the Aragon Grand Prix last month. This has allowed Mir and Quartararo to get the jump on him.

Vinales believes that the 2020 spec Yamaha he is racing is no match for his rivals, but insists he will keep fighting: "It's impossible with the bike we have right now," he said when asked what he has to do to close down Mir.

"Suzuki right now are in another level so we cannot do nothing. We just need to pray to have a perfect bike in Valencia, perfect start, be first and to see if we don't lose the position. I will try to be fresh, try to give good feedback to the guys in the box so they can provide us with the best bike.”
