2025-26 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 14
Levante v Athletic Bilbao
Estadio Ciutat de Valencia
Valencia, Spain
Saturday, 29 November 2025
Kick-off is at 19h30
Ernesto Valverde will be desperate to alleviate some of the mounting pressure on his shoulders when Athletic Bilbao take on La Liga strugglers Levante at the Estadio Ciutat de Valencia on Saturday, November 29.
Results just haven't gone the Lions' way this season as they've managed only five wins from their opening 13 matches and are some way off UEFA Champions League contention.
Valverde's side suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona on November 22 which was their third loss in five games and left them 11 points adrift of the top four in eighth place.
A big concern for Athletic is the fact that they've shipped 17 goals already, making it the seventh-worst defensive record in the league - even 16th-placed Osasuna have conceded less than them (16).
The Frogs have found the going tough since gaining promotion last term, losing eight of their first 13 encounters and leaking goals at a worrying rate.
Only 18th-placed Girona have let in more goals than their 24 and Julian Calero's side are hoping to avoid a fourth straight loss after going down 1-0 to neighbours Valencia on November 21.
A run of five games without a win has left Levante two points shy of safety in 19th position, with goal difference keeping them off the foot of the table.
Valverde admitted his team were made to pay for costly mistakes against Barca and expressed concern with the slow starts they are making in games.
"We have to look at how we start matches," the Spaniard said. "I think we played quite well in the first half, enough to stand up to them and draw level, but then the match became all downhill for them and all uphill for us.
"We made mistakes and they made us pay dearly for them. They scored the first goal in the fourth minute. We regrouped, had chances to equalise, and the match was wide open, even though we were playing here and they were ahead.
"Then it was a cascade of setbacks: the goal in the last minute of the first half, the third goal right at the start of the second half, the sending-off... It got worse with every passing minute.
"We're not happy with how we lost, but we also have to know how to bounce back and deal with these situations."
