The Toffees form seems to have finally turned after they beat Fulham 3-0 on Saturday for just their second league win of the season, snapping a three-game winless run in the process. Gylfi Sigurdsson, wearing the number 10 shirt since the departure of Wayne Rooney, saw his spot-kick smash back off the crossbar with the scores still level however his pair of second-half goals ensured that Everton kept their fine home record against the Cottagers intact.

Everton vs Southampton

Southampton find themselves slipping precariously down the Premier League table. The fixture list doesn’t get any easier for the Saints following Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie with tough tests against Chelsea, Bournemouth and Man City, all currently in the top ten, on the immediate horizon.

Toffees, Saints Clash in Carabao Cup

Tuesday’s affair will be the first cup clash between the pair since Everton beat Southampton 2-1 in third round of the FA Cup in January 1987. In 39 Premier League meetings between the duo, Everton have come away victorious on 17 occasions compared to 11 by Southampton, with a total of 11 draws.

The Toffees walked away with all three points from their league clash back in August when Theo Walcott and record summer signing Richarlison scored for the hosts, while Danny Ings scored what proved to be a consolation goal in the second half for the visitors. That result means Southampton’s wait for first a win at Goodison Park since November 1997 continues - a run of 14 matches.
