2022/23 UEFA Champions League

Group stage
Matchday 4

Barcelona are facing an uphill battle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages as they prepare to welcome Inter Milan to the Camp Nou on Wednesday, October 12.

The Blaugrana were beaten 1-0 by the Nerazzurri in Milan on matchday 3, which made it back-to-back defeats in Group C.

Xavi's side trail group leaders Bayern Munich by six points after three matches and their remaining three are basically must-win scenarios.

Xavi expressed his concern about Barca's chances of progressing to the next round after failing to capitalise in front of goal against Inter last time out.

"I am worried about the loss. The situation is difficult," the Barca legend told Marca. "We got into the game late and we lacked dynamism.

"We had chances but we did not make them count. We knew about the danger they can cause with shots outside the box. We have three finals left and we are in an uncomfortable situation. We must compete better."

The Milan giants have put themselves in a good position to advance from the group after bouncing back from a 2-0 loss at home to Bayern Munich on matchday 1 to win their next two games.

Simone Inzaghi's team are three points better off the Barca and the Inter head coach has urged his players to be more consistent in their performances if they want to achieve something big this season.

"I wouldn't say it was unexpected," Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia. "I said yesterday it was a great opportunity against one of the best teams in the world.

"We played with aggression, determination, as it's the only way to beat these opponents. We'd been waiting a long time for this, I am happy for the fans and the club but we've achieved nothing yet.

"It needs to be a wonderful night that marks the beginning of something. It can be the start, but we need to give a sense of consistency to this result and performance now."
