2022/23 English Premier League

Matchday 13

Manchester City v Brighton & Hove Albion

Etihad Stadium
Manchester, England
Saturday, 22 October 2022
Kick-off is at 14h00

Manchester City will look to continue their dominance over Brighton in the Premier League when they face-off at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, October 22.

Pep Guardiola's side did the league double over the Seagulls last season, winning 4-1 at the Amex before emerging 3-0 victors in the corresponding fixture.

The Citizens have only lost once against Albion in the Premier League era, which came during the 2020/21 campaign on the south coast when they suffered a 3-2 defeat.

City's unbeaten start to the new season came to a halt on Sunday as Liverpool beat them 1-0 at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah scoring the winner in the 76th minute.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead through Phil Foden, only for VAR to intervene, and Guardiola felt they could have prevented the Reds from scoring, but was still pleased with the shift his players put in.

"We conceded a goal because of a mistake, and we didn't follow the transition," the Spaniard said after the game on Merseyside.

"Alisson plays it out quick, Kevin [De Bruyne] didn't follow, and Joao [Cancelo] lost the duel - it is always so difficult against Salah with the way he uses his body.

"This is something we have to learn for future tight games against Liverpool, but the way we played, the performance and the courage we played with was fantastic."

New Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi is still searching for his first win after a 2-0 loss at Brentford on Friday left him with just one point from his first three games at the helm.

De Zerbi kicked off his tenure with a 3-3 draw against the Merseysiders followed by a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham one week later.

The Italian was left to rue their missed opportunities once more as they peppered the Bees' goal with numerous shots without success, having experienced similar misfortune in front of goal against Spurs.

"I thought we played a good game but if you want to win you have to score," he said. "It is difficult to explain the result and for a coach it's difficult for me to talk about playing a good game when we lost 2-0.

"We had a lot of potential chances and [more than] 20 shots on the goal but we didn't score. The goalkeeper for Brentford was fantastic.

"Maybe that is our problem because against Tottenham we had a lot of shots but didn't score, we couldn't find the last pass or final cross when we needed it."
