Red Bull Racing's Sergio Perez has a fight on his hands to finish second overall in the drivers' classification as the Formula One season heads to the
United States Grand Prix.
The Mexican appeared to be a contender for the 2023 title when he won two of the opening five races and finished on the podium four times.
But Perez has been very inconsistent since then, partly due to driver errors, as he failed to make Q3 for five races in a row, while finishing outside of the points in the Monaco Grand Prix.

The 33-year-old claimed P2 at the Belgian Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix, both one-two's for Red Bull Racing, but he was forced to retire from the Japanese Gran Prix following a collision with Haas' Kevin Magnussen.
'Checo' went into the Qatar Grand Prix just 33 points ahead of Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and was grateful to see the Brit crash out on lap 1 after colliding with team-mate George Russell going into the first corner.
The gap now stand at 30 points after Hamilton picked up four points in the sprint, while Perez finished the race in P10 to earn a single point.
Rumours have emerged in the lead-up to the United States Grand Prix that Perez will announce his retirement at the Mexico Grand Prix, but the driver insists he remains motivated to achieve more in the sport.

"Well, right now I have a contract for next year," he was quoted as saying by Sports Illustrated. "And it will be important to have a good year.
"I have the motivation to continue, and I want to stay for more years because I believe that I still have a lot to give in Formula 1. I would like to stay in F1 for at least three to four more years."
