2025-26 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 9
Atletico Madrid v Osasuna
Estadio Metropolitano
Madrid, Spain
Saturday, 18 October 2025
Kick-off is at 19h00
Atletico Madrid will be keen to keep the momentum going in
La Liga when Osasuna visit the Metropolitano in the late kick-off on Saturday, October 18.
Los Colchoneros' title challenge got off to a poor start after they failed to win their opening three matches and picked up just two points.
But Diego Simeone's side have slowly started to turn things around and a 5-2 demolition of Real Madrid on September 27 boosted their confidence.
A 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo on October 5 saw Atleti drop out of the UEFA Champions League places down to fifth, although it extended their unbeaten run to seven games.
Los Rojillos have blown hot and cold thus far in the new campaign, registering back-to-back wins just once and losing four times already.
However, Alessio Lisci's side arrested a three-match winless streak with a 2-1 success against Getafe on October 3 to lift them up to 12th position, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Osasuna stunned Atletico with a 2-0 victory in their last meeting at El Sadar on May 15, having suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in the corresponding fixture last season.
Simeone was pleased with the effort his players put in against Celta, having been at a numerical disadvantage for an hour following the dismissal of Clement Lenglet for a second bookable offence on 40 minutes.
"11 against 11, we had it under control," the Argentine said. "With 10 men, we behaved well defensively; we couldn't do so in attack, except for one from Koke.
"I'm very happy with the team's work. I'm keeping the positives. The team responded well in a complex situation, and they responded well. I left very happy. Very happy, celebrating the work of the lads."
Lisci was happy to see his team get a positive result despite playing poorly and believes it is a sign that they are improving.
"We hadn't come from behind to win in 95 games. That shows small improvements, but competitively we stayed in the game, and set-pieces gave us points, as they sometimes do," the Italian said.
"I told you before the match that if we played well and lost, the feeling would have been bad. But playing a poor game and winning gives the feeling that we want to improve."
