KTM rider Miguel Oliveira will be looking to successfully defend his Grande Premio MEO de Portugal title on April 18.

The Portuguese star is returning home after struggling in the most recent race in the 2021 season which was the Doha Grand Prix on April 4.

Oliveira finished 15th in Doha where KTM riders struggled badly for front tyre wear in the opening round and they could not secure podium spots.

The 2021 Doha Grand Prix was won by Fabio Quartararo and he was followed by the Ducati duo of Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin respectively.

Therefore, Zarco is sitting at the top of Riders' standings and he followed by the Yamaha duo of Quartararo and Maverick Vinales.

Oliveira is currently placed 16th on the standings and he will move up on the table if he wins the Grande Premio MEO de Portugal.

The Almada-born rider started the current season with a 13th spot finish at the Qatar Grand Prix on March 28.

Oliviera, who has been competing in the MotoGP since 2019, felt that he had a good start at the Doha Grand Prix, but he believes that he was a bit slow when changing direction.

"It was a normal start, the kind we have been practising in these times," Oliviera said.

"Actually the 0-100k was the same as I do in my practice starts so we did that on the race and my reaction to the lights was good. The start was the most positive thing today. It was a backwards race.

"It started really well and lap by lap I didn’t have it. The bikes were a bit slow-changing direction and I couldn’t really make a counter-attack on my rivals."

Yamaha are placed at the top of Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ducati and Suzuki respectively.
